Netflix Hidden Gems: Tucker and Dale vs. Evil

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is one of those films that I want everybody to watch so we can all talk about how genius it is. It is, by far, one of the best horror/comedies out there. Honestly.

A little film synopsis: two well-meaning hillbillies are mistaken for crazed killers by a group of clueless college students. It takes the usual horror premise of college students being brutally murdered by backwoods hillbillies and turns it on its head. And it does it in such a wonderful way. Start out with the fact that the leads of Tucker and Dale are played by Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine, two very hilarious and loveable men. Then, you have the writing. The writing is this films strongest point. It’s clever. So very clever. It’s really hard to relay to you just how good the writing is through my own writing. I just need you to watch it. With lines like “I should have known that is a guy like me talked to a girl like you, somebody would end up dead” and “I’ll provide the finger sandwiches”, it’s just… I need you to watch it, okay? You’ll see what I mean. You’ll like it, I promise.

Ultimately, this is a film about one thing: don’t judge a book by its cover. Don’t judge others until you get to know them. And, in today’s day and age, this is a lesson we can all use.
