22. Some Like it Hot (1959)

After two male musicians witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all-female band disguised as women, but further complications set in. Some Like it Hot, written and directed by the great Billy Wilder, is, in fact, one of my favorite films. However, I’m trying to figure out how the film has aged. I’m trying to figure out if this classic romantic comedy … Continue reading 22. Some Like it Hot (1959)

Tick, Tick…BOOM! (2021)

Tick, Tick…BOOM! is Lin Manuel-Miranda’s directorial debut. It’s also Andrew Garfield’s singing debut. And, honestly, both of them have done phenomenal.  Miranda, being both a lover of film and theater, was able to help translate Tick, Tick…BOOM! from stage to screen, with Steven Levenson’s screenplay adapted from Jonathan Larson’s stage musical of the same name. For those unfamiliar with the musical, Tick, Tick…Boom! was written and performed by … Continue reading Tick, Tick…BOOM! (2021)

23. The Grapes of Wrath (1940)

An Oklahoma family driven off their farm by the poverty and hopelessness of the Dust Bowl joins the westward migration to California, suffering the misfortunes of the homeless in the Great Depression. Don’t you hate it when a movie made in the 1940s is still relevant 81 years later?  The Grapes of Wrath starred Henry Fonda, Jane Darwell and Russell Simpson as members of the Joad … Continue reading 23. Halloween Kills (2021)

Talk about an underwhelming film! For those that are new here, here’s my review on the 2018 Halloween.  Once again, I was really hoping to like this film. But, we are (again) presented with a film that relies on the viewer’s sense of nostalgia, rather than giving us a solid story to get behind. For the entire hour and forty five minute run time, Halloween Kills … Continue reading Halloween Kills (2021)

Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

Okay. So I definitely meant to watch this film opening weekend. But, real life happens and I started a new job, so here we are.  The sequel to 2018’s Venom is just as good as the first one. That’s to say that Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a mediocre comic film, but still enjoyable to watch.  Once again we have Tom Hardy playing the roll of … Continue reading Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

24. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world. The first note that I wrote down while watching this film was “why this Spielberg movie? What sets this one apart?” I was truly troubled by this. Don’t get me wrong; this film holds a special place in my heart. I saw it when  I was … Continue reading 24. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

90s Flashback: The Net (1995)

Directed by Irvin Winkler, written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and starring Sandra Bullock and Jeremy Northam, The Net is a film that is only dated by the technology displayed. The overall plot of the film has aged tremendously and it’s, dare I say it, a good movie.  For those unfamiliar with the 1995 film, Sandra Bullock plays a computer programmer named Angela Bennett. … Continue reading 90s Flashback: The Net (1995)

25. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the Depression-era South, defends a black man against an undeserved rape charge, and his children against prejudice. The last time I watched Robert Mulligan’s To Kill a Mockingbird, I was in highschool. Freshman year, I think it was. We had just finished reading the book, so naturally that was followed with the film. I remember really disliking the book, and not … Continue reading 25. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

26. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

A naive man is appointed to fill a vacancy in the United States Senate. His plans promptly collide with political corruption, but he doesn’t back down. Screenplay by Sidney Buchman, directed by Frank Capra and starring James Stewart, Jean Arthur and Claude Rains, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is still as relevant today as it was in 1939. Honestly, it’s probably more relevant now than … Continue reading 26. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
