Where Have You Been, Loca?

I’ve been burnt out on movies. No. That’s not true. I’ve been burnt out on the Industry. I’ve been burnt out by their callousness. I’ve been burnt out by their pessimism. I’ve been burnt out by their Greed.  So, I haven’t been writing. I haven’t felt passionately enough or motivated enough to write anything for months. That’s not for lack of wanting to write. Just because I’ve been burnt out on the Industry doesn’t mean that I’ve stopped watching movies. Me, stop watching movies? Could you imagine?

In fact, I’ve seen a handful of movies that I have wanted to write about. I saw Sinners (2025) earlier this year and absolutely loved it. I think about that film at least once a week. Ryan Coogler created perfection. I saw Clown in a Cornfield (2025) and that was a fun film.

I just saw Superman (2025) and that made me feel happy and optimistic. It was nice to see such a clear “good guy v. bad guy” plot in today’s day and age. I also recently watched Sphere (1998) and that movie made me want to dive back into my 90s Flashback series. So, I can feel the love coming back to me.

I’ll slowly dip my toes back in, writing about movies that take us back to a simpler time, sprinkling in something new every once in a while, and finally publishing my article on Citizen Kane (1941), which I’ve had in rough draft form for just over a year.

The love for film never dies. It just lays dormant for a moment while unregulated capitalism beats the ever living crap out of it, eventually circling back to complete love.
