Don’t Look Up (2021): So Close to Home That it’s Almost Hard to Watch

You know, I don’t know that I would classify Adam McKay’s new film Don’t Look Up a comedy, only because it emphasized that already hopeless feeling that I have for the state that our world is in today. Did I find it funny, though? Oh, of course I did. If I can’t laugh at the state we are in, then I’ll just end up crying … Continue reading Don’t Look Up (2021): So Close to Home That it’s Almost Hard to Watch

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021): Fan Service At It’s Finest

If you’ve been with me for a while you’ll know that I’m not always keen on fan service when it comes to comic book films. Mainly because the fan base, at times, can be toxic and giving them what they want to see can kind of be like rewarding bad behavior. However, in the case of Spider-Man: No Way Home, I am all for playing into … Continue reading Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021): Fan Service At It’s Finest

Tick, Tick…BOOM! (2021)

Tick, Tick…BOOM! is Lin Manuel-Miranda’s directorial debut. It’s also Andrew Garfield’s singing debut. And, honestly, both of them have done phenomenal.  Miranda, being both a lover of film and theater, was able to help translate Tick, Tick…BOOM! from stage to screen, with Steven Levenson’s screenplay adapted from Jonathan Larson’s stage musical of the same name. For those unfamiliar with the musical, Tick, Tick…Boom! was written and performed by … Continue reading Tick, Tick…BOOM! (2021)

Halloween Kills (2021)

Talk about an underwhelming film! For those that are new here, here’s my review on the 2018 Halloween.  Once again, I was really hoping to like this film. But, we are (again) presented with a film that relies on the viewer’s sense of nostalgia, rather than giving us a solid story to get behind. For the entire hour and forty five minute run time, Halloween Kills … Continue reading Halloween Kills (2021)

Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

Okay. So I definitely meant to watch this film opening weekend. But, real life happens and I started a new job, so here we are.  The sequel to 2018’s Venom is just as good as the first one. That’s to say that Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a mediocre comic film, but still enjoyable to watch.  Once again we have Tom Hardy playing the roll of … Continue reading Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

90s Flashback: The Net (1995)

Directed by Irvin Winkler, written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and starring Sandra Bullock and Jeremy Northam, The Net is a film that is only dated by the technology displayed. The overall plot of the film has aged tremendously and it’s, dare I say it, a good movie.  For those unfamiliar with the 1995 film, Sandra Bullock plays a computer programmer named Angela Bennett. … Continue reading 90s Flashback: The Net (1995)

The Night House (2021)

As we all know, I love atmospheric horror. And I love watching atmospheric horror films even more in theaters. Especially when surrounded by those who are also excited to see the film. I remember seeing the trailer for David Bruckner’s The Night House ages ago in theaters. I remember not being able to tell where the film was going. All I knew is that I was … Continue reading The Night House (2021)

Candyman (2021)

I feel like I have been waiting so long for this sequel to come out. Although, let me just say, Candyman (2021) is definitely worth the wait. Directed by Nia DaCosta, Candyman picks up thirty years after the first Candyman film. We are introduced to an artist, Anthony McCoy, and his girlfriend, art gallery director Brianna Cartwright. Anthony, in trying to come up with some new work, decides to … Continue reading Candyman (2021)

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

If I’m being completely honest, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was one of the Marvel films that I was least excited to see. I had accepted the fact that I was going to have to watch it, so that I don’t miss out on anything that connects the film to the larger picture, but that was about it. After viewing the film on … Continue reading Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
