58. The Gold Rush (1925)

“A prospector goes to the Klondike in search of gold and finds it and more.” This is, I think, the third time I’ve seen this film. The only version I could find this time was a version that had music and narration added by Charlie Chaplin. Now, for those of you that have been with me for a while, one of the things you may … Continue reading 58. The Gold Rush (1925)

Movie Musical Monday: The Greatest Showman (2017)

The Greatest Showman is a movie musical based (read loosely) on the life of PT Barnum and the creation of Barnum Circus. The liberties that are taken in the telling of this story are disgusting, honestly. But, hey, at least the music is good. Look, if you’re going to make a musical out of the story of PT Barnum and his circus, you have to … Continue reading Movie Musical Monday: The Greatest Showman (2017)

59. Nashville (1975)

“Over the course of a few hectic days, numerous interrelated people prepare for a political convention as secrets and lies are surfaced and revealed.” Robert Altman’s masterpiece is a study of American people and politics, set right in the heartland of a country that was still in social turmoil and about to see the political era of Ronald Reagan. I will say that one would … Continue reading 59. Nashville (1975)

Halloween (2018) Review: Laurie Strode Deserves Better

SPOILERS AHEAD I really wanted to like this film. I was so excited to see Laurie Strode finally face her demon and take him down. But, that wasn’t the film that we got. The film that we got had a sloppy script, characters who were only there for backstory, and overall, just really lazy writing. There were at least three different stories worth telling fully … Continue reading Halloween (2018) Review: Laurie Strode Deserves Better

Bad Times at the El Royale: The Best Film I’ve Seen This Year

From the moment I saw the first trailer for Bad Times at the El Royale, I could tell that we would be in for something awesome. For your reference, I’m specifically talking about this trailer: Bad Times At The El Royale Trailer Bad Times at the El Royale is about seven strangers, who are all more than they appear who all just happen to arrive at … Continue reading Bad Times at the El Royale: The Best Film I’ve Seen This Year

I just have a couple questions about the 1978 Halloween…

Disclaimer: I love the film. Always have. That being said, I have a lot of questions. 1. Why does nobody turn on lights? Who just walks around a house in darkness? 2. Why is there a jack-o-lantern next to the bed at the Wallace’s house? 3. Why does Laurie keep throwing the knife away? 4. How does Loomis not hear Laurie scream? 5. Why is … Continue reading I just have a couple questions about the 1978 Halloween…

Venom (2018)

Venom is Sony’s newest attempt at a Spider-man cinematic universe. And, all in all, it was enjoyable. However, it did have it’s problems. The casting was good, but unfortunately a lot of the characters fell flat. There was an attempt at creating depth within each character, but ultimately everything felt very surface level. Thankfully, Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Eddie Brock worked really well, and brought … Continue reading Venom (2018)

Movie Musical Monday: Annie (1982)

Full disclosure: I have a very strong dislike for the musical Annie. Like, I really really don’t like it. That being said, I tried to watch this film without letting my personal feelings get in the way. Not sure that I was successful, though. Overall, the cast is good. I mean, Carol Burnett playing Ms. Hannigan, Tim Curry as Rooster, Bernadette Peters as Lily, Albert … Continue reading Movie Musical Monday: Annie (1982)

The Nun (2018) Review

Where do I even begin… The Nun is, chronologically, the first film in The Conjuring Universe. I would like it noted that I hate that The Conjuring Universe is a thing. The Conjuring was a fantastic film based on the ghost stories told by Ed and Lorraine Warren. It does not, however, warrant an entire universe of films around it. Anyway. There are a number … Continue reading The Nun (2018) Review

60. Duck Soup (1933)

Rufus T. Firefly is named president/dictator of bankrupt Freedonia and declares war on neighboring Sylvania over the love of wealthy Mrs. Teasdale. Look, I know it’s a classic. I know it’s The Marx Brothers. But, I just don’t find Duck Soup to be particularly interesting. I mean, there’s no real plot. There’s nothing to root for. Duck Soup feels more like a vehicle for individual … Continue reading 60. Duck Soup (1933)
