Okay. I’m going to be completely honest: I have not been able to figure out why this particular Charlie Chaplin film is this high on the list. The reason can’t merely be that Chaplin decided to defy every one and release a silent film in the age of talkies, can it? Because, then, what about Modern Times?

Honestly, I do not have a lot to say about the film, other than it was fun, I guess? I feel like this one didn’t have the major overarching, relevant themes that other Chaplin films had. I really am just baffled that this film is listed at number eleven. Because Modern Times kicks the shit out of this film. The only thing City Lights really has going for it is that well choreographed chair scene and maybe that boxing match.
